Frequently Asked Questions

Do you take insurance?

Yes, we do take insurance for our physical therapy services. We are contracted with many major insurance plans, and as a courtesy to our patients, we will verify insurance benefits on your behalf prior to your first visit. Please note that our infant developmental support program is considered a wellness service and therefore may not be billable to your insurance plan after the initial consultation. Contact our office for more information on payment options for either service.

Do I need a physician's referral to start physical therapy?

No, a physician's referral is not necessary to begin physical therapy in most cases. If you are planning to use your insurance, please contact us as some plans require a physician's referral in order for physical therapy services to be covered.  If you need a referral, click here to download and print a form for your child's pediatrician or specialist physician to sign. We believe in a team approach to treatment and are always happy to communicate with your child's medical providers.

Is my baby too young to start physical therapy?

It is never too early to get started and have your child evaluated for potential physical therapy needs. Early intervention is important when treating all conditions that require physical therapy, but in the case of children, there is a window of opportunity in the first 3 years of life when physical therapy treatment can have a profound effect. Starting treatment early in development can minimize and prevent developmental delays and often times can prevent the need for physical therapy in the future.  Contact us to determine if your child is appropriate for either a physical therapy evaluation or our developmental support program.

How long should I plan for my child's appointment?

Physical therapy evaluations and follow-up sessions are scheduled for 45 minutes. Please arrive 15 minutes early for your first appointment to complete all necessary registration paperwork and to give your child a few minutes to get settled and adjust to our environment.

How should I prepare for the first visit?

If possible, download and complete our New Patient Intake Forms prior to arriving for your first appointment.  Completing these forms in advance helps to expedite the registration process and allows us more time to focus on your child.

Try your best to have your child fed and well-rested for his/her appointment. Our staff will work with you to schedule therapy times around your child’s nap and feeding routine to optimize your therapy time. We understand that this is not always possible, so we will help in any way we can to make your visit convenient for you. Please dress your child in loose-fitting, comfortable clothing. For the initial visit, infants are often evaluated in a diaper only. If your child is comforted or motivated by special toys from home, feel free to bring them to your appointment.

Where are you located?

Our office is located at 1640 Valencia Street, Suite #1C , where the Bernal Heights, Mission, and Noe Valley neighborhoods meet. Both metered and free 2-hour parking can be found nearby our entrance on Valencia Street. We are easily accessible via several Muni bus lines. Click here for a map and directions to our facility.
